Damned if you do, damned if you don’t. Oil companies don’t get much slack these days, and lacklustre stock valuations reveal investors have not forgiven those that cut their dividends during last year’s epic oil crash. The energy transition is not all bad news though, and green spin-offs could offer a way to unlock value, according to analysts.
And, national oil companies will be squeezed in the quest for ‘net zero’ emissions but could derive strategic benefits from a diminishing market. That’s one implication from the IEA’s landmark Net Zero Emissions roadmap.
