Net zero ain’t happening and CCS won’t save us

First up: Natural gas, the cleanest-burning fossil fuel, is again becoming unaffordable in many end-user markets. Better get used to it: there’s no easy fix to the perennial problem of gas price spikes and supercycles.

And: Net zero won’t happen by 2050, carbon capture won’t decarbonise the fossil fuel industry, and hydrogen will play only a minor role in the energy transition. But don’t take my word for it: that’s according to DNV’s latest meaty outlook report.

Here’s the full line-up:

💥Natural gas is its own worst enemy — The oil industry’s heralded ‘bridge fuel’ is pricing itself out of the energy transition

⚡Transition lines:

  • Net zero ain’t happening and CCS won’t save us

  • Houston oilmen embrace gas-fired bitcoin mining

  • Russia moves to dominate global helium market

  • ADNOC to IPO drilling unit ahead of major oil expansion

  • Iraq walks the talk on emissions

  • And more...

🧠Energised minds:

  • ‘Africa cannot leapfrog fossil fuels and alleviate poverty’
