Celebrating one year of ‘premium’ Energy Flux
Lock in a huge lifetime discount on membership for a limited time only
I’ve now been an independent publisher for a full year – and what a year it has been in the energy world. To celebrate this milestone and make premium membership accessible to a wider audience, I’m repeating the hugely popular special offer that accompanied the original launch: a full 33% *lifetime* discount.
This limited offer won’t be around for long, and applies to annual membership plans only. Once redeemed, the 33% discount will be applied for every year that you renew your paid subscription – forever.
I’ll be honest with you: I dislike the paywall. The energy world is careening into a severely chaotic period and high-quality, granular analysis of how the many complexities could play out is hard to come by. ‘Free’ content is paid for by other means, and often comes with a hidden agenda (or advertising).
Not Energy Flux. I launched the newsletter as a passion project to discuss urgent energy issues that fell outside the remit of my editorial day job at an energy consultancy. In March 2021, after walking away from that well-paid position, I put up the paywall on Energy Flux and ventured into the unknown.
With bills to pay and a family to support, I took the crazy decision to make a living doing what I love best – writing with absolute freedom about the energy transition. Energy Flux is a fiercely independent newsletter that analyses, without fear or favour, the immense trade-offs that society is making in the quest to decarbonise and ‘de-methanise’ vital energy sources.
With war waging in Ukraine and world leaders engaged in dangerous brinkmanship over natural gas supplies to Europe, there is an urgent need for non-partisan analysis of political and commercial energy decisions being made at this pivotal moment in modern history.
The mission of this newsletter is to deliver clarity and reason, an oasis of balance amid the deafening clamour of the highly politicised mainstream energy commentariat. With war squeezing nuance out of the debate, energy tribalism is undermining honest dialogue. Energy Flux is my effort to build bridges between entrenched camps of thought and foster informed dialogue.
I would love nothing more than to scrap the paywall in pursuit of that goal, but here is another painful truth: Energy Flux is still not quite able to support a growing family — hence my parallel life moonlighting as a freelancer for other publications.
I enjoy writing immensely, and doing so for a variety of outlets is intellectually stimulating. But for this publication to continue in its current form, it needs financial support. If you value my work, please consider taking out a premium subscription – and bag a huge discount in the process:
If this is not an option for you, remember that ‘liking’ and sharing content is an extremely effective way of breathing life into Energy Flux that costs nothing but a few moments of your time.
And any words of encouragement you can muster give me the courage and stamina to keep burning the midnight oil in the endless quest for analytical and editorial excellence. Just hit reply or leave a comment — I read everything my readers have to say, and reply to all premium members.
As ever, thank you for reading Energy Flux. Here’s to many more years of non-partisan dialogue around that most crucial element of modern civilisation: the energy we use every day.
Seb
